Along the way, we will stop in Tigua, a town where artisans are known for their vibrant paintings and pause at a viewpoint overlooking the stunning volcanic crater lake for which this area is named. When we reach our home for the next week, Chugchilan, you will have time to wander the property which includes several hiking trails, a frisbee golf course, sauna and hot tub, yoga studio, organic garden, and a wild assortment of animal life…including, of course, the iconic black sheep!

    Day 4: Cloud Forest Hike

    Morning Yoga

Head up into a tropical cloud forest paradise where we will experience a lush environment in stark contrast to the windswept open plains of the paramo highlands. On the way back to the lodge, we will stop by a local cheese factory and sample fresh varieties.

    Evening Yoga

    Day 5: Traditional Market

We have an early start this morning in order to reach the small town of Saquisili where an incredible traditional market is held every Thursday. The market takes over the town and we will wander through food stalls, past colorful handicrafts, witness an animal market, and experience market life as it has existed for hundreds of years. This is the largest traditional market in the area and arguably one of the most authentic in Ecuador. After lunch, we head back to the lodge for a free afternoon during which you might choose a hike, hammock time, hot tub, etc…whatever you like! This evening’s yoga practice will be a longer, more in-depth session.

    Evening Yoga

  • Quilotoa Yoga Retreat with Amy Fix: June 26-July 2, 2016

Amy Fix Ecuador Yoga Retreat Instructor“I am an athlete at heart and want to share my of love of yoga with fellow athletes and non-athletes alike. I want to teach others that yoga can provide a non-competitive workout that improves everything from flexibility, endurance, balance and posture to mental focus and breath awareness. These aspects can be important in any athletic training as well as our daily lives.”

With more than 22 years of experience teaching fitness classes as well as being an accomplished runner, cyclist and triathlete, Amy is passionate about educating and training individuals and groups in methods and strategies to live healthier lives. Amy discovered yoga over a decade ago while researching non-invasive methods for relieving chronic back pain. She found that yoga not only improved her flexibility and relieved her pain it also improved her athletic performance, taught her how to breathe more efficiently, and improved her balance. She found that yoga, at its essence, opened a whole new world of possibilities. She found a path towards peace.

Eager to share this knowledge with others, Amy studied yoga under Stephanie Keach at the Asheville Yoga School in Asheville, North Carolina, and later opened her business, YogaFix, based in Albany, Georgia. YogaFix allows Amy to fulfill her passion of teaching individuals techniques to bring holistic wellness into their lives.

In 2013, Amy expanded her yoga training in the world of Therapeutic yoga and obtained her 500-hour RYT status through AYC. Therapeutic yoga involves an inherently holistic approach incorporating mind, body and spirit. It allows the body to naturally move toward health while reducing the effects of illness or injury. It is designed for a wide range of people with physical limitations such as back and/or hip issues, arthritis, cancer, anxiety & depression, and much more.

Amy incorporates many yoga styles into her practice and teachings and especially enjoys power yoga, Vinyasa Flow, and Yin Yoga. During your active retreat with Amy, you will explore a daily mix of these yoga teachings with an emphasis on Therapeutic Yoga and relaxation techniques including daily meditation.

What airport do I fly into?
Fly into Quito’s Mariscal Sucre Airport (UIO)

    Do I need a passport/visa?
US citizens will need a valid passport to visit Ecuador, but no visa is required at this time. Passports will need to be valid for at least 6 months from the date of entry. Ecuador reserves the right to refuse entry if passports expire before the 6 month mark.

Nationals of all other countries should check travel requirements well in advance of their retreat.

What is the electrical currency/outlet in Ecuador?
Ecuador uses the same plug and currency as the US (110-120V).  Some plugs will not accept the third ‘grounding’ pin so a back-up adapter is recommended.

Is there internet access on property?

Yes but it is slow and unreliable. My recommendation is to expect to be out of touch and disconnected from your devices while here on retreat. Because we are staying in a rural area, I cannot guarantee there will be a connection so if you need internet while on retreat, please talk to Nicole in advance to discuss your needs and options.

    Can I drink the water?
Fresh and filtered water is available.  The water out of the tap is not suitable to drink.

Do I need to bring my own mat, blocks, straps, etc?
Yes, please bring your mat. Blocks, straps, etc are not necessary but can be useful if you are accustomed to using them in your daily practice. Use your discretion. There are no props available here at the lodge.

What do I need to bring?
Layers are the keys to comfort here in the Andes. The popular saying goes that you can experience all four seasons…often in just one day! Nights will be cold (expect upper 40s-50s) while daytime temperatures can climb into the upper 70s. You will receive a full packing list after placing your deposit but some things to think about ahead of time are sturdy hiking boots, warm layers, and clothes for your yoga practice.

    Do I need travel insurance?
This trip is a big investment of time, energy, imagination and funds.  We highly recommend that you buy travel insurance including trip cancellation coverage in the event that an unforeseen situation arises. All guests of Amazon Andes Sky are required to carry international emergency medical coverage. Your current health insurance plan or coverage provided by your credit card (if you purchase travel with the card) may already include emergency international coverage. Check with these suppliers before you purchase a separate policy.
